The Dingshu Vocational School of Pottery by genarchitects is the only pottery institution in the National Program of Adult Continuing Education Development for poor farmers in Yixing, China. The school aims to increase the income and improve the lives of neighboring farmers and the disabled by providing courses and training. The building is also open to the community as a venue for cultural events.
When conceiving the building, genarchitects prioritized the specific needs of the pottery training process. Taking inspiration from traditional pottery workshops and Chinese literati garden, the firm designed a low-density decentralized campus to provide a free creative environment for trainees and masters.
