The Tulum Train Station by AIDIA STUDIO sits in the beach resort of Tulum, in the Mexican Caribbean, along the Riviera Maya. The project incorporates elements of pre-Hispanic Mayan Architecture — including the use of light, shadows, patterns, materials and vegetation — to optimize the sustainability of the station.
In addition, to minimize the station’s placement on the site, the architects opted for an eye-shaped footprint, which is widest at the center, where the main functions converge, and tapers at the ends. The use of space was made more compact by stacking the station’s services immediately above the platforms. The levels are sheltered by the grand hall, which floods the station with light and natural ventilation.
