The proposal of Pushkinsky Theatre (the Veins) has imagined
Moscow as a complete organ body, and Pushinsky Theatre as the beating heart
symbolizing the spirit and the passion of the city of Moscow. The Pushinsky
Theatre (the Veins) investigates the metaphoric quality of a heart membrane
sculpture with its veins tectonic system embellishing the red glowing flesh of
heart as ornament.
The importance of Pushkinsky Theatre in Moscow has a
symbolic and narrative quality in film industry in Russia. Its strategic
location intersecting with Pushkin Square has imprinted its role as Moscow’s
landmark. The new façade design offered an essential identity about performing,
representing and show-time to welcome the audiences like the oxygen flows into
main and side arteries. A glowing red blending with warm green towards the
Pushkin Square distributes a sense of red-carpet royal yet warmth to the city. The
expression of the veins ornaments the envelope of Pushkinsky Cinema as well as
introducing a new tectonic structure system.
As an international standard cinema, Pushkinsky (the Veins)
initiates a grand entrance hall by introducing an elegant cantilever with
slanted facade; in the meantime, it gives an iconic scale of an important
cinematic theatre. A canopy has been introduced in the podium to be the VIP
welcome space for exclusive live interview during the red carpet. The existing
theatre itself remains as one entity covered humbly with timber material and
louvers while the extension (grand hall) is covered by big baies of glass;
DuPont Safety glass interlayer for extra strength and permitting sunlight
penetrating into grand hall to the maximum. The last layer of envelop is an
independent membrane with its veins structure system. The design essence of
cladding is to express the monolithic continuous membrane and veins as one
expression. The DuPont Corian has guaranteed the flexibility and sustainability
performance to achieve the metaphoric quality of design.
