Two main challenges arose while developing the gourmet
bakery, La Maison du Macaron in Montreal:
the cramped and narrow premises (3 x 10 meters) and the distinct features of
the products that needed to be displayed.
The predominance of white in the design gives the
boutique its general appearance, the only exception being the burgundy
porcelain floor that extends onto the partially lit back wall, covering it
subtly with decorative patterns.
A high white carrera marble counter, covered with a
tempered glass case, crosses the room from one end to the other, contributing
to defining the space. More than 700
coloured macaroons are highlighted and reflected on the ceiling, itself made
with white stretched vinyl. Inescapably, the ceiling is a strong element that
enhances the client experience and acts as an important element in the general
marketing approach.
Opalescent, milky-white neutral lighting gives the
space just the right rhythm. Well lit built-in alcoves create additional
storage and add a whole other dimension to the space.
Reflection is essential in this project: marble,
glass, vinyl, shiny laminate and the use of only one piece of furniture that
unfolds to imitate a ribbon, create depth and contribute to diminishing the
physical limits of space.
The result is impressive as clients enter into a
simple space, yet one which reveals a strong, remarkable identity, inviting us
to indulge in their pastries.
