Single family holiday home in scenic sea side Rural town of RoundstoneStrict traditional planning requirement were interpreted to take the traditional courtyard single level house typology permitted, and skew its volume creating rich open plan spaces inviting the contemplation and perception of the sea whilst retaining privacy and enhanced solar gains through a large glazing protected by a deep roof and balcony overhang, the house sits on a prominent location of the site surrounded by a sunken courtyard that generate a private sunny patio that act as a wind shelter and reduce the height perception from the outside, the materials chosen respond to the traditional elements of residential architecture of the west of Ireland, slate,plaster,stone and corrugated sheeting, at the rear the house has a semi attached shed that could be integrated to the main living space by a set of sliding walls, this enable the users to increase level of sheltering pending on weather conditions
