The residence is located in a quiet neighbourhood in downtown Athens. The residence also
houses a small lawyer office.
The layout of the residence is expanded in an L shape, around a small courtyard.
The courtyard opens up to the pedestrian alley in Gorgiou Street for greater privacy.
The residence, as a spatial setting, is analyzed into three key operational zones:
LIVING ROOM, the place where the members of the family are gathered
KITCHEN, the place where meals are prepared
PRIVATE SPACES for each member.
The layout in an L shape, the gradient of the slope and the analysis given above, raise the
central idea that each of the separate zones are organized in different levels.
The whole zones-layout is interconnected through a staircase.
The staircase, which has a central role in the spatial organization of the layout, helps to
smooth the flow of one functional unity into another and it also allows for visual continuity.
The concept of flow is achieved through a single “ribbon” shape, formed by the beams as
they run around the structure.
