15 June – 30 August 2010
The V&A has invited a group of international architects including Terunobu Fujimori of Japan, Rural Studio of the USA, Studio Mumbai of India and Helen & Hard of Norway to respond to notions of refuge and retreat. Seven of the designs will be commissioned as full-scale structures positioned in various locations around the Museum. They explore the power of small spaces through themes such as work, play, contemplation and performance. One of the central aims of the exhibition is to move away from explaining architecture through drawings and models and instead allow the visitor to physically experience the architecture itself.
