Villa Filo (filo means edge in spanish) is a rest home inside a vacationing complex at Isla Mujeres, Mexico.
Taught as a continuity of the rocky terrain, the villa is organized as separate wooden “rocks” in a radial arrangement, covering a 180° panorama, from sunrise to sunset.
The whole building is one meter above ground to minimize the impact on the site and avoid eventual floods. These have been achieved using an exo structure of Zapote (Sapotilla) tree trunks and beams.
The program consist in a social space (kitchen, toilet, dinning room and living room), main bedroom, second bedroom and, linked by external stairs, a studio / guest room. The individual spaces are connected by terraces to create soft transitions, expand rooms boundaries and increase privacy.
A conceptual tension between inside and outside is proposed by its tectonics. The outside is built using craft worked raw materials, meanwhile the interior is made with clean and industrialized finishes.
