The mental and social development of toddlers is greatly influenced by the environment in which they are raised. The architectural design of the educational spaces should establish the prerequisites for the building to function as a usefull tool of the educational process. The goals of modern educational approaches are to promote cooperation ethics, creativity, and freedom of expression. By searching three different kinds of correlations through the design process, the architectural proposal hopes to compose a space that will embrace these goals; a) many levels of gradation from the indoor to the outdoor space b) the transition from the natural to the constructed environment, and c) the degree of transparency over multiple areas at once
The main concept behind the building's morphological design is the way materials' transparency gradations and surfaces layering are composed so that a three-story volume finally takes on a less bulky form. The kindergarten’s main axes of morphology and program were the natural illumination, the protection of all spaces from the north orientation, and the smooth integration of the building into the urban landscape. The aim is to have a wide range of spatial features and perspectives that will encourage the sense of exploration in children and increase the number of activities that may be incorporated into the educational process. The smooth curves of the bulding morphology mimic how people naturally move, ensuring the safe and free play of the clidren. The wide window openings are oriented and positioned in a way that maximizes the natural illumination during the day, especially during the school operation hours. The complex of perforated canopies-pergolas enhances the idea of surface and transparency layering while it works as a main shading structure of the building and the oudoor spaces and decrease the total energy footprint.
