Renovation to a manufacturing building into office lofts. The significance in this project is the initiative taken to revitalize a building in a blighted area of the city. Cities all over the United States have suffered a de-urbanized
epidemic leaving voids in post industrial areas of the city. The choice to invest good sustainable design into an aged building in this area is commendable and necessary for regrowth. The result yields a grass roots effort for revitalization in downtown El Paso, Texas.
Located in the historic Union Plaza district of downtown El Paso, this three story building reflects the surrounding scale of industrial and commercial buildings in the area. Like most urban industrial buildings in this part of the city, a lack of significant entrance denies connection to the street level. In response to this condition the construction of a ninety foot wide street level entry way creates a lung for the building to breath.
