The house is situated near orange groves and strawberry fields, with the upper floor offering glimpses of the sea. Built on a 660 sqm lot intended for a two-family home the house was designed as one complete structure rather than a mirrored semi-detached home, resulting in an asymmetrical façade and unique massing.
The goal was to create a modern yet warm home with a continuous connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, accommodating various areas for family and hosting. Despite the lot size and coverage limitations, we aimed for an open and bright entry level with flexible spaces. The challenge on the top floor was to incorporate all bedrooms and bathrooms without compromising their dimensions. The home also features a basement with an additional suite, game area, and a personal training studio, all brightened by large English courtyards facing south and west.
The unified façade while concealing the nature of the building has two distinct entrances. Broad concrete steps from the courtyard lead to the main door of each unit. a side path provides access to the basement, while a deck extends from the kitchen’s concrete cube surrounding the house to the pool and garden at the back.
Inside, all areas are defined by the building's masses. The entrance reveals the layout. The kitchen, enclosed in a detached concrete cube separated by a band of windows that bring in natural light. High ceilings, minimal windows, wood, steel, and large slabs enhance the exposed concrete walls with a view crossing the main space. An exposed concrete core hides the stairs as it spans from the basement to the roof. In it are enclosed a bathroom and coat cabinets. The precise, in-depth process of architectural principles, exploring multiple alternatives and selecting materials, finishes, and accessories lead to this outcome creating a whole.
