This house was designed to accommodate many users from the client’s briefing, including the parents, three children and the client themselves. After longing for a new house which can provide a comfortable spaces for the client activities, this house was designed with simple layout arrangement and many outdoor openings to minimize negative or unused spaces.
Situated on a province road and dense rural neighborhood, this house needs to tackle a lot of design problems, including the safety and noises which come directly from the road in front of the house that often used by large container trucks.
Without trying to be something that looked extravagant, considering the condition of the site, this house was modeled after modern tropical style finished with materials like granite tiles, wood and paint to blend nicely with the site. This was considered, as the surroundings mostly consist of lower middle class people and can provide a future problems for this house if not designed carefully.
The masses were arranged so the gathering area or living room can have a large openings with a garden connected next to them. Rooms openings on the first floor were also designed not to face the direct view from the road to minimize noises and able to be used safely. While on the second floor, the bedrooms were arranged next to each other with single corridor to connect all the rooms so the parents can easily oversee the children bedrooms.
Having to face the province road directly, made this house designed to have double glass window on all the openings especially on the front elevation. This decision proved to be useful as it can lower the noises disturbance by a great number. The users can rest and do activities comfortably as the rooms can be shielded from the noises.
In conclusion, this house can be a comfortable living space for the client. The disturbances from the surroundings can be tackled with simple yet easy solutions. The arrangement of the masses were designed to not face the direct sunlight and this made the house can achieve a good thermal comfort and lowering the building operational cost by utilizing the natural ventilation and lighting.
