Headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Globo Network is the fourth, largest public television network in the world and one of the largest producers of soap operas and distributors of world-wide news. The New York office is located in the historic 32 Avenue of the Americas Building in Lower Manhattan. Planning their expansion to a contiguous space, Globo called on Spacesmith and partners Davis Brody Bond. With offices in Brazil and New York, Davis Brody Bond was the perfect match.
The program for the expansion focuses primarily on adding 3000 sf to the existing 7000 sf by acquiring adjacent rented rooms surrounding their current space. Conference rooms, teleconferencing stations, private offices and open plan work stations were added. The scope of the renovation also includes programmatic and mechanical upgrades of Globo’s existing spaces.
The goal was to develop a seamless transition from the existing space into the new; to create a grand reception designed to pull everything together. Spacesmith / Davis Brody Bond worked with the Brazilian architect to develop and incorporate the Globo brand with the design intentions. The bright and bold colors of their logo were utilized to marry spaces. Glass walls allow transparency for office communication as well for natural light to filter in the space. Modern installations of existing finishes allowed the team to create a space that is up to date but in line with the overall clean aesthetic of the office. Curved elements enhance the sense of openness and flow throughout the space.
