PUSHKINSKY
RELOADED
The
Pushinsky Cinema hall, a rare modernistic architecture and iconic
symbol for the moscovites, deserves to be renewed without loosing
those issues that in the past decreed its charm: the huge glass
facade and entrance hall, the slanted overhanging with former
characters on gold, the curved termination of side facades, the
flight of steps. All these are provided a new appearance without
fading away.
A
marriage between old and new is allowed by the use of DuPontTM
materials: Corian surfaces become a skin that envelopes and protects
the old building, revealing itself as a precious heritage not to be
destroyed. The old glass facade is redesigned using DuPontTM
SentryGlass for its transparency and strenght.
The
original golden facade is restored and mantained as historical memory
of the building. It can be glanced only by approaching the entrance
to the hall, with a kind of surprise effect. At night, it projects a
vague golden reflection over the glass facade.
A
big number of pyramid-shape tiles made of Corian decorate the facade
as a wave of digital pixels, which create the new sign of the cinema.
The decor texture is an abstract reference to traditional russian
patterns (a modern synthesis between the pyramids of St. Basil's
Cathedral and the images of Digital Age). The same “pixel effect”
is repeated on the staircase, in the form of a golden carpet (made of
DuPontTM
Corian Aztec Gold, backlit) that welcomes the audience and leads them
to the main entrances.
The
new square in front of the facade is paved in concrete and decorated
with a big decorative pattern. It is partially covered by the big
canopy, becoming an area where visitors find a shelter where waiting
for their screening.
