'I 40' is a maisonette placed upon the top of an old building that
was erected at the beginning of the 20th century and lost his original roof
during World War II. The concept for a new roof plays with the contrast of this
old basement building and a new modern architecture.
The design is based on a hyperbolic-shaped bowl, which serves as
floor, walls an ceiling for the two floors. The sculputaral roof architecture
was made with a wooden strucure with a white skin made of polyurethane to
protect the building from weather. White color on the surface
inside the building and large glass windows support the light expression
of the building, making it a nice place to have an excellent view over the city
of Stuttgart.
