This contemporary master suite and family room addition in West Berkeley is contained in a structure separate from the original house, connected by a short hallway. This solution allowed for an easier and more efficient construction phase, in addition to allowing variation between the design of the old and the new buildings. The structure incorporates Advanced Framing techniques and passive solar design principles, provides infrastructure for a future solar panel array on the roof, and includes a cement board rain screen exterior cladding.
