The Makarenko school is located in Ivry sur Seine, on the eastern neighborhood of Paris.
It consists of two parallel buildings, one for nursery school, the other for primary school.
The rise of population in the district due to local major building programs increased the number of kids to host in school.
Although a new school is now being built, a conjonction of various problems could not make possible to finish the new school in time : pollution and reinforcement of underground quarrel galeries (Paris is full of them).
As a consequence it was necessary to create a temporary school for 2 years - in the vicinity of the existing school - to welcome the arriving kids.
The temporary school is dedicated to nursery school (children between 3 and 6 years)
It consists of :
- 4 + 3 classrooms (4 made in November 2012 + 3 being made for the end of July).
- Activity room
- Bathrooms (adults and childrens)
- School restaurant and kitchen.
The project shape is a L, following the limits of the enclosing ground. It creates an open, yet protected playground at the center.
The School is made out industrial structures (modular structure). They were made in a factory, almost 90% finished, then transported on site. The whole schhol was mounted in less than 3 weeks. Electric and plumbing connection was made on site, as well as the acoustic ceilings and some fire preventing adaptations.
It is a rented school so the standard modular finish was kept "as it is", but customized to fit the needs and add some poetic...
The whole project is recyclable / reusable at about 90%
The playground facade was dressed up with simple local and non treated wood, painted in various blue on sides. It unifies the whole while letting views to the original waste ground, promised to future projects.
