Working closely with the owners’ vision, CCY developed a new form of Montana ranch emphasizing environmental stewardship.
Deep into the 1,200-acre site, situated on the edge of a meadow, the ranch captures expansive views as well as engages the more intimate environment of river oxbow and riparian habitat. The compound is a carefully arranged ensemble of buildings - the main home, garage and guest wing, a guest cabin and “boys club” all organized around an informal arrival courtyard. Each space inhabits a different aspect of the site.
Inspired by Western pole barns as well as modernist pavilions, layers of local stone and timber comfortably balance large fields of glass to engage the landscape.
