The Kingsley Project was the recent subject of a rigorous, televised renovation.
Project leader, Matt Di Costa, backed by The Summit Homes Group WA, is host and producer of this show, entitled, Matt and Kim to the Rescue.
The goal of the project was to provide a family in need with a surprise renovation that incorporated money saving design features and the creation of considered integrated spaces.
Indoor gardens, retractable north faced skylights, solar panels, led lighting and lower water use utilities were incorporated.
A centralising winged front façade replaced a tired brown face brick 70’s elevation. Lightweight foam panelled walls and steel frame aided a speedy and ambitious 4 day turn around.
The use of space opening, re-enforced beams drove a psychical rethink of how the home could better be used. The outdoor and indoor spaces were connected with a repositioning of the kitchen, dining and lounge. Those rezoning changes continued in the backyard where adult, teenager exclusive spaces were created alongside each, along with communal zones.
The thoughtful nature of the design process is further galvanised by its execution in that all is donated. From pre design, certification, engineering, to material procurement, install, labour for construction.
A philanthropic process of this magnitude is unique in Australia and has become the benchmark for larger projects to come. This is 5th project of its kind.
No money changed hands during the course of this project.
