Elysium Hotel Plaza, Jeddah
1. Architectural Concept & Aesthetics
The project is a premium mixed-use development, combining a prominent hotel tower with an expansive, multi-story luxury retail plaza.
Form and Geometry: The building features a dramatic contrast between the two main masses:
The Hotel Tower (Vertical Component): A sleek, crystalline, and angular structure that cuts a distinctive profile against the city skyline. It features extensive glass curtain walls for views, partially shielded by the perforated skin.
The Plaza Base (Horizontal Component): A large, curvilinear structure that wraps around the base of the tower, providing an accessible and flowing volume for the retail space.
The Façade (Perforated Aluminum Cladding): This is a defining feature. The white, double-skin façade is covered in an intricate perforated aluminum cladding, likely a pattern inspired by traditional Islamic geometry (Mashrabiya).
Function: As you specified, this cladding acts as a high-performance solar screen to mitigate direct solar radiation and reduce heat load on the primary envelope, essential for Jeddah's climate.
Aesthetics: The cladding gives the entire structure a unique, textured, and almost glowing white skin, unifying the contrasting forms.

Effect: This system floods the internal plaza space with abundant, diffused natural light, while the insulation minimizes heat gain. The light creates beautiful, dappled shadows on the floor and walls, mimicking an outdoor experience but with full climate control.
