Completing this innovation laboratory was quite exciting for everyone on our team, especially as it further stimulated our creativity in design and appropriate choices for the project. In this environment, technology is the standout feature of the Catarinense Industry Observatory, from the use of woodworking and furniture to the implementation of necessary devices, bringing a sophisticated touch in harmony with maximum comfort and innovation.
Our client presented the challenge of designing an information exchange hub within their headquarters, focusing on the region's industry, to serve as a space for accessing intelligent data and visualizing the future. Additionally, our project aims to provide the sensation of living a unique informative experience that provides answers and assists in decision-making, as well as generating a desire to share ideas and information with others, sparking interest in new solutions.
Architecture, design, and marketing worked together to test various layouts and ideas within a space of 6 meters by 8 meters, which constituted the total area of our project. We emphasize that this method of designing greatly benefits us as a team, encouraging and promoting the exchange of thoughts and proposals in a horizontal and participatory manner.
We then developed an open and transparent space, capable of reconfigurations, with sophisticated lighting design. Its furnishings are multifunctional, including a video wall at the back of the room with a touch screen system. We introduced projectors and interactive panels for note-taking and presentations for those using the space for meetings and workshops.
Going into more detail about the project, we highlight our decision for a versatile environment that allows for various space utilization configurations, aided by freestanding furniture that can be arranged in different positions. With sofas, tables, stools, ottomans, and counters, these pieces of furniture enable design thinking workshops, business meetings, and visits to take place based on the pre-event layout, making the space more flexible.
To complete the environment, custom woodworking furniture was designed to maximize the use of the room's space. This woodworking provides support for both storing freestanding furniture and accommodating equipment to support activities and integrate the technologies that make up the Observatory's dynamics.
Regarding the technologies and innovations, there is the video wall, which consists of 10 professional monitors to ensure a better experience for Observatory users, including touch screen technology for increased interactivity. Additionally, projectors were installed at two points in the space, as well as wall sconces and acoustic baffles, enabling a detailed audiovisual experience and greater immersion in activities.
We have concluded a project that, though simple, is interactive and stimulating. It is a collaborative workspace with readability, infrastructure, and versatility, providing the sensation of living an informative experience and assisting in decision-making and finding answers. Furthermore, it is a space with technology, signage, lighting, and furniture attributes that support knowledge production.
