In an apartment block from the end of last century 2 maisonettes were
united and fully refurbished. The apartments serve a family spread all
over the world as their meeting and operational point in Europe. The
design transcribes this with a felxible response. On the entrance level
the large living area with the the square table in front of the open
space kitchen is offering a social centre for the family’s activities as
well as a conference area for buisness meetings when the kitchen is
being closed off with the large sliding panels. The adjacent room serves
as the media- and guest room, but can also be used as an extra study.
On the upper level in the 8th floor a private study and relaxtion room, a
large master bedroom with its own bathroom and sauna as well as the
children’s room with a separate bath are placed.
To break the rigor of the given rectangular shaped rooms long benches
stretch in front of the windows, altering the direction of the rooms
and allowing casual get-together as well as giving further storage
space. Apropriate to the multitude of users a focis was laid on
flexibally used built-in furniture with few loose furniture being added.
On the entrance level in the 7th floor the colour scheme is completly
reduced in favor of the placing of the art colllection. The rooms are
“white cubes” made from white walls, white lacquered furniture and a
bright concrete flooring. Whereas the private rooms on the upper level
are characterized by the furniture and flooring in whitened oak.
