Africascopes building is located on a path
perpendicular to the ocean shore of the main city of São Tomé and Principe. It
is a mixed-use building, with the ground floor for offices and for access to
underground parking and the remaining four floors for housing. The building was
commissioned with the porpoise of becoming a new reference and offer high
quality housing that is beginning to awaken in Sao Tome and Principe.
A solution adopted two fronts, with the two
facades looking to absorb as much natural light as possible and filter out the
high temperatures of the equatorial climate. The effect of light within the
space is smooth and controlled. We also studied a natural cross-ventilation
solution that would allow the constant renewal of fresh air within the
typologies.
The fragmentation of the main facade gives the
impression that the building has adapted to the natural surroundings and
transmits a musicality and a constant motion.
