TD Architecture transforms a traditional Ha Long villa into a light-filled contemporary home
Perched above Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay, TD Architecture has completed the transformation of a traditional villa into a bright and modern residence that embraces the surrounding sea and sky. Once defined by steep tiled roofs, ornate moldings, and heavy columns, the original house felt enclosed and distant from nature. The renovation replaces this heaviness with lightness, precision, and a renewed sense of openness.
Maintaining the existing structural frame, the architects redefined the façade through pure geometry and horizontal lines, removing all decorative details to achieve a clean, minimal composition. The new roof, shaped as a “floating wing” reaching toward the bay, introduces visual movement and creates a distinctive silhouette against the coastal horizon.
Stainless steel becomes the project’s defining material — reflective, durable, and inherently modern. Its polished surfaces interact with changing daylight, producing shimmering reflections during the day and a soft metallic glow at night. Used across shading elements, window frames, and façade panels, the material brings both elegance and strength, reinforcing the project’s crisp architectural language.
A bold glass balcony extends outward, appearing to float above the bay. This delicate yet sturdy structure allows residents to step into the open air while remaining visually suspended between the sea and the sky. The balcony captures the spirit of freedom and weightlessness that defines the entire renovation.
Inside, TD Architecture continues this dialogue of light and balance. The double-height living room floods with daylight, where neutral tones meet natural stone, Italian leather, and stainless steel to create a refined harmony. The kitchen and dining area showcase sculptural elements — a translucent stone island with beveled edges and a custom Crystal Blue dining table, both serving as tactile highlights.
The master bedroom adopts a softer mood, anchored by a bespoke bed with a curved leather headboard shaped like unfolding wings. The walk-in closet features illuminated shelving and display cabinetry for accessories and jewelry, transforming a private space into a personal gallery of style and identity.
From a once heavy, traditional villa, the residence has been reborn as a contemporary home — open, elegant, and deeply connected to its coastal setting. Each element, from the reflective stainless steel to the floating balcony, contributes to a quiet architectural statement that celebrates modern Vietnamese design with subtle sophistication.
The renovation’s all set — a seamless blend of geometry, light, and emotion overlooking Ha Long Bay.
