Founded in 1997, Lynch + Comisso: Architecture + Light (L+C) is a full service architectural and design firm with an added specialty of architectural lighting design. Our philosophy is to approach design with an open mind, progressive thinking and plenty of research. These tools equip us to effectively solve the problems presented by each project. We approach each new project as an individual challenge with its own tailor-made solution rather than using the formulaic approach so prevalent in today’s streamlined market.
In addition to a variety of new construction projects, many of L+C’s past projects include renovating and updating a wide range of buildings from commercial /industrial spaces, single-family homes and museums. These include the Aurora Cultural Centre - a multi-use facility in Aurora, the conversion of a warehouse to office and support space for Infrastructure Ontario, and Structural and Building Envelope Restoration of the Hoover House at the Markham Museum and Rectory at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Toronto. Renovation projects in particular require close examination and analysis of existing conditions and prior history. A key element of our philosophy is the client’s engagement and input throughout the design and construction processes of the project. We are here to listen, lead, advise, present, and act on designs reached through the collaboration of all team members.
Our firm offers a full range of architectural services from programming through to contract administration with construction values averaging $7M/year. The two partners, Steven Comisso and Mary Ellen Lynch, bring a breadth of experience and specializations to each project, allowing our clients to benefit from value-added services that are usually procured through additional consultants. Mary Ellen Lynch OAA, is an associate member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and incorporates her architectural lighting knowledge into every design project. Steven Comisso OAA, has extensive experience as a framer, trim carpenter, and furniture maker.
L+C works in a studio environment with a small group consisting of three architects, one technologist, and an office manager/project coordinator. This configuration allows for an open and communicative working environment where collaborative design can flourish.
