Campbell Architecture is a small practice that undertakes residential projects on a high service, small output basis – taking time to build relationships and craft a beautifully detailed environments.
The philosophical framework within which we design is well
summarised by William Morris:
"simplicity of life … is the very foundation of refinement"
Within this framework, we work to craft environments particular to each clients needs. We shy away from a dogmatic dictation or description of style – our work is clean, contemporary and functional, and yet comfortable and familiar.
Our framework is based around three touchpoints – simplicity, durability & refinement.
Simplicity: an architecture of simple ideas; looks good when it is real; impresses by function & finesse rather than excess; when you think you are finished, take one more thing away.
Durability: durable architecture should look as good and work as well in 10 years and more as it does now; avoids the latest fads, if designing for kids will withstand them; looks good and can be kept looking good.
Refinement: an architecture that does not need to be iconic, does not shout, but that will work and breathe in the way you choose to use it; never forgetting the pleasure of whimsy, the unexpected, the soft against the hard, curved adjacent the straight, the new against the old.
