Measuring some 55 feet high by 99 feet wide, the flowering elevation will constitute Manhattan\u2019s largest residential green wall, and was devised by Ando in collaboration with renowned landscape architecture firm <a href=\"http:\/\/mpfp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M. Paul Friedberg and Partners<\/a>. The external concrete fa\u00e7ade celebrates the story of its construction with a perfect grid of tieback notches, a feature visible in countless Ando projects from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Modern_Art_Museum_of_Fort_Worth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fort Worth\u2019s Modern Art Museum<\/a> to the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Church_of_the_Light\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Church of the Light<\/a> in Osaka, Japan.<\/p>\n<p>In between the expanses of concrete, floor-to-ceiling glazing is underlined by steel I-beams that bring to mind <a href=\"http:\/\/architizer.com\/blog\/mies-van-der-rohe-collages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mies van der Rohe<\/a>\u2019s own brand of structural expression. Designed by Michael Gabellini and Kimberly Sheppard of <a href=\"http:\/\/architizer.com\/firms\/gabellini-sheppard-associates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gabellini Sheppard Associates<\/a>, every shade of gray imaginable is on display, from the walls to the floor finishes to the furnishings and even the artwork on the walls. It is a sea of tonal calm in the midst of a frenetic metropolis.<\/p>\n<p>The interiors exude exclusivity but are not overtly lavish, an accusation that could be leveled at the furnishings and finishes chosen for <a href=\"http:\/\/architizer.com\/firms\/rafael-vinoly-architects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rafael Vi\u00f1oly<\/a>\u2019s similarly high-end apartments inside the soaring <a href=\"http:\/\/architizer.com\/projects\/432-park-avenue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">432 Park Avenue<\/a>.
