Archtober<\/b><\/a>, New York City\u2019s month-long celebration of architecture and design, returns this year as a hybrid virtual and in-person festival. Organized by the <\/span>Center for Architecture<\/b><\/a> in collaboration with 70 partners and sponsors, the 2021 installment of the festival gathers events, exhibitions, resources, and activities that celebrate the importance of architecture and design in NYC and beyond. New this year: the Archtober Guide to New York map!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs New York City continues to reopen and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, we welcome all New Yorkers and visitors alike to celebrate our city\u2019s resiliency and capacity for transformation,\u201d said <\/span>Benjamin Prosky, Assoc. \"\"Virtual and In-Person Program Offerings<\/h2>\n

As organizations and audiences alike continue to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19, Archtober 2021 will feature a combination of in-person and virtual programming, allowing partners to take advantage of broader virtual networks while accommodating diverse audiences.<\/p>\n

Many talks by partners including Columbia GSAPP<\/b>, the <\/span>Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at CCNY<\/b>, and more will shift to virtual or hybrid formats to accommodate even larger and more international audiences. Meanwhile, several tours, including <\/span>after-hours visits to<\/b> Green-Wood Cemetery<\/b><\/a>, a <\/span>guided tour of \u2018T\u2019 Space | Steven Myron Holl Foundation<\/b><\/a>, and a <\/span>tour of the Shuls of the Lower East Side<\/b><\/a> by the <\/span>Museum at Eldridge Street<\/b> will happen in-person. Similarly, exhibitions have mainly returned to in-person formats, giving institutions like the <\/span>Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum<\/b> and the <\/span>Museum of the City of New York<\/b> the opportunity to safely welcome visitors into their spaces. Don’t miss the <\/span>New York Botanical Garden<\/b>\u2019s <\/span>Kusama: Cosmic Nature<\/i><\/b><\/a>, closing at the end of October, or the <\/span>Museum of Modern Art<\/b>\u2019s <\/span>Reuse, Renew, Recycle: Recent Architecture from China<\/i><\/b><\/a>, opening in September.<\/span><\/p>\n

For 2021, the festival\u2019s popular \u201c<\/span>Building of the Day<\/b>\u201d series of architect-led tours returns to largely in-person programming, with<\/span> tour registration launching September 13<\/b>. This year\u2019s selection of tours includes <\/span>Little Island<\/b> by <\/span>Heatherwick Studio<\/b>, the <\/span>Africa Center <\/b>by <\/span>Caples Jefferson Architects<\/b>, the <\/span>Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch Renovation<\/b> by <\/span>Toshiko Mori Architects<\/b>, the <\/span>Dia Art Foundation <\/b>by <\/span>Architecture Research Office<\/b>, and <\/span>11 Hoyt <\/b>by <\/span>Studio Gang<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Archtober will also continue its \u201c<\/span>Travel To<\/b>\u201d series, which digitally transports attendees to sites across the world, providing an opportunity for architectural tourism from the comfort of our homes. This year\u2019s Travel To programming includes a tour of <\/span>Paul Revere Williams projects in Los Angeles,<\/b> hosted by the <\/span>LA Conservancy,<\/b> and a tour of <\/span>DL1310<\/b>, a residential project in Mexico City by<\/span> Young & Ayata<\/b>. And if you’re looking to travel locally, be sure to check out this year’s <\/span>Weekend Getaways <\/b>partners: <\/span>Art Omi, \u2018T\u2019 Space | Steven Myron Holl Foundation, Grace Farms<\/b>, the<\/span> Glass House<\/b>, and the<\/span> New Canaan Historical Society.<\/b><\/p>\n
