Text description provided by the architects.

The Aria is located in Bondi Junction, a rapidly changing satellite CBD centred in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
In recent years, government policy has been to increase population density in strategic locations such as Bondi Junction and this project is an exemplar of the new type of housing which is being encouraged and built.

Opposite a park, the project is a dynamic sculpted apartment building that uses rhythm & form to create a positive presence on the street and in the surrounding area.
The strong visual effect was achieved by designing alternating angled balconies which sculpt the northern façade with their forms further enlivened by the path of the sun.

The sculpted northern façade was achieved through the use of detailed concrete profiles, carefully modulated without recourse to applied materials.
The alternating balcony forms provide visual interest throughout the day subtly changing with the angle and position of the sun.
The nine storey project has been designed with one apartment per floor which provides a maximum level of privacy for the occupants with no inter tenancy walls.

Further advantages of the single apartment strategy are solar access and natural ventilation.
Winter sun penetrates deep into the north facing living spaces giving the occupants comfortable amenity and access to the sun when desired.
Effective cross ventilation is provided by having openable windows on all sides thus minimising the need for air conditioning.

Aria is an example of how additional density can be provided in the city without compromising the benefits of a traditional sized dwelling, even in a high density context such as Bondi Junction..

A+Paradise: Casa Delta Is a Majestic, Modern Extension of Brazil’s Jun gle Canopy

That Thiago Bernardes has established himself as a renowned designer of wonder-homes in his native B razil will come as little surprise to those who are familiar with the architect’s family history. Thiago is the grandson of Sergio Bernardes, a larger-than-life pioneer of utopian architecture in 1960s Brazil who could purportedly design a staggering 25 homes a month at the pinnacle of his career.
