3XN’s design for Swedbank is an innovative interpretation of the core values of the organization – openness, simplicity and care- materialized in a modern office with an emphasis on transparency and a dynamic social environment. The design features a folded ‘triple-V’ structure that breaks up volumes and creates an inviting democratic environment.
The architectural solution locates employees closer to each other than in a traditional office. This contributes to shorter distances, good internal communication, visual contact and knowledge sharing between departments. Atria bring daylight in and provides a view out from the offices.Swedbank evolved into a 21st century bank in an archaic setting.
By relocating from Stockholm’s city center to suburban Sunbyberg, it consolidated staff in one modern facility in an accessible location that has excellent transportation links. The ‘triple V’ architectural solution, a compressed zigzag-shaped floor plan, enabled 3XN to provide the required space for 2,500 staff on the limited and irregular site while also reducing distances between staff, providing views from every workstation and eliminating corridors.
Large niches between the legs of the ‘Vs’ allowed for five glass-enclosed atria, which act as light shafts and visual links connecting the floors. Two sculptural spiral staircases form the hubs of the building; an example of architecture facilitating interaction and visual contact and providing exercise. A dynamic and transparent façade invites the outside in and enlivens the streetscape..
