Text description provided by the architects.

This project mainly focused on renovating the facade of an existing two-story wooden structure, built in the 1980s as a Japanese restaurant, surrounded by the inactive neighbor. The client requested that the new facade should be outstanding, and welcome local people and tourists somehow in a casual manner. The existing structure was surrounded by stainless steel panels and wooden louvers which were supported by structurally independent steel framework.

The bead blasted stainless steel panels, perforated so as to connect the scenes inside and outside the existing glazing gradually, dimly reflect the appearance of the sky. Covered with two contrasting materials, the new facade affects as a catalyst not only to stimulate its inactive neighbor, but to provide intimacy with manipulation of the natural environment.
