The flat structure of +Energiehaus Farschweiler lies on a sloping area where the upper floor is a platform that connects inside and outside together and it provides a magnificent view through the landscape. The design language of the building is independent and self- confident. At the same time lines up this two story saddle roof construction on the development structure of service road.
The house is designed as a mixed construction: the ground floor with exposed concrete and vacuum insulation and the solid wood construction on the upper floor. According to the building owner’s desire of having a pollution free- ecological house, the construction has been dispensed with glue by using dowelled form boards. The surfaces of load bearing wood walls stay unclad on purpose in order to achieve a balanced room temperature. Similar to the conventional masonry, the massive wood walls have a heat storage capacity. The air densed, thermal bridge-free, heat-insulated shell goes till under the floor panels and sits on the foam glass gravel. The facade is cladded with tightly pressed profiles of Siberian larches, the residual products from the production of window profiles has been recyled, oiled and used. On the roof, the Photovoltaic modules are arranged. This makes the Passive House an +Energiehaus Farschweiler
On the North side, the big openings of windows provide a spectacular view from inside through the landscape. At the same time this is one of the biggest challenge of passive house design. Since the proportion of the windows shall be kept as low as possible on the North side in order to reduce the heat loss, a special window has been designed and built with quadruple glazing and the vitrification of the frame.
Outside is flush mounted like an inlay into the wooden construction and emphasizes the distinct form of the building.
