Renovation of the Arts and Sciences Building
The Arts and Sciences building is one of original structures, which forms the park-like campus of the Zurich Highlands Grammar School designed by Max Ziegler in 1955.
The spatial organization is characterized by a central atrium, which forms the middle of an open composition und the focus around which the classrooms and music studios are arranged. As the school complex is now listed as a cultural heritage site, many original features of the design, which had been altered over the years were restored or reconstructed. The 14 meter long and 2,5 meter high vertically retractable wall, which allows the entire width of the music hall to be connected to the circulation space and the atrium, was restored and refurbished to meet fire codes. The complex acoustical requirements for the music hall that is used for lectures, concerts and performances led to the development of a new interior paneling system.
