Denumire proiect:Thebrief of the project asked for the design of a games club located inone of the most significant spaces of the building. The mainrequirement was to obtain a space with a completely controlledatmosphere with no relation with the outside world in which you arenot aware of the time passing.Thedesign proposal started from generating a completely black box, aswell as a shape and as a concept, an abstract space that doesn’tbreathe towards the outside world but keeps locked within the memoryof events.

Therefore the existing windows become showcases forexhibiting and communicating towards the outside, a sort of dynamicinformation screens. Theinside, although a vast in surface (2000 m2) proved to bedifficult to configure and especially to organize within a coherentunique concept, due to the existing random layout of technical areasand the crisscrossing massive steel structure.

In the first designconcepts we tried to cover and hide the existing structure, thentried to ignore it but came to realize that the best solution is tointegrate the structure within the general interior design and tomultiply it as a deformed projected image on the perimeter walls.

Overthe actual structure we imposed two elements with the intention ofunifying the interior – one is the continuous strip of theperimeter walls that wraps up the entire space, comprising gaming aswell as technical areas, and the other one is the artificial lightingthat through its dynamic, intensity and color scheme modifies thespace and in the same time divides it discrete in different areas. The spaces that make up the interior are thus differentiated indynamic areas for gaming, static areas for bar and seats, intermediary areas for communication, etc.Thetechnical areas and supportive functions for the club have beenenclosed within the perimeter wall strip, forming punctual landmarksfor the bar area, the circular projection wall, the smokers area, bowling or gaming area.

The central cylinder is the only place wherea filtered contact with the exterior is possible within the abstractinterior – natural light enters at the base of the wall discretelyindicating time’s passing, while the video projections above thewall distort the interior atmosphere. Theentire furniture has been custom designed for this project, followingthe same conceptual design theme.

Each piece of furniture serves itsfunctional role and follows the concept: the dynamic bar counter madeof kerok, the facetted sinks with inclined margins, the tables in theseating areas and the counters in the gaming areas with dynamicinsertions that reproduce the wall prints. Theflux of movements in the interior space has been a major theme fromthe beginning on, and the carpet was personalized as an interior mapthat charts the different functional areas by the use of printedtexts and paths.

This adds to the fact that the entire space can beread as a communicating body that facilitates the movement within itand the reading of the separate areas. The strong colors chosen forhighlighting the space set landmarks in the black surrounding.Forthe whole interior design we strived to create a strong conceptualidentity around the theme of the Blackbox, defining all the elementsthat make up the whole, the logo, the furniture ant the entireinterior context..
