Summer is here, which means it’s time to sit back and soak up the sun! We’ve rounded up seven chairs in which you can do just that. From reclaimed lumber and fallen trees to laser-cut steel and cotton cord, these designs can enhance a variety of architectural styles and design intentions. Outdoor, indoor, or somewhere in between, the seats provide a durable option for gathering and reflection. As standalone products or combined with other pieces, these seats each provide a unique aesthetic and function.
Gisele Lounge Chair by Aristeu Pires Design
This lounge chair by Aristeu Pires Design is perfect for enjoying the summer sun! Combining sustainable Brazilian wood and 400 feet of raw cotton cord, the chair is a simple, modern design choice for indoor furnishing. Fun fact: the chair was named after the Brazilian supermodel.
Ylla Bench by Aristeu Pires Design
Inspired by native boat designs, Ylla Bench allows four people to enjoy that afternoon sun together. As the designer said, “With its soft waves and satin finish, Ylla embodies an exquisite sunny day on the water and brings it into your home.” Ylla is a comforting, beautiful bench that combines function and aesthetic appeal.
A larger seating option created by Patricia Urquiola, Canasta embodies a design of woven patterns. Perfect outdoors, by the pool, or indoors, the Canasta has enough space to share for those warm summer days. Part of the Crinoline collection, the seating also includes new fabrics and small tables.
A versatile chair suitable for indoors and outdoors, the Asturias wanted to make use of found, raw materials. Carlos Motta designed the seating using materials from São Paulo. He created a strong, durable chair perfect for soaking up the sun no matter where you find yourself.
Another piece by Carlos Motta, this chaise lounge chair was created with simple lines, straightforward design, and sustainable methods. As Motta has said before, he values a collection of “simplicity, made to last.” The Timbó is a great piece to set outside as it is low-maintenance and moisture-resistant.
As its description notes, “Thin is in.” This clever chair by Blu Dot includes powder-coated steel that can be folded along laser-cut lines. Although it is thin, the folds and supports are designed to be sturdy. It is also available in a copper-plated finish so that it develops a patina over time — when you’re not soaking up the sun, of course.
