You’re Invited … to Experience Alexander Girard

Sheila Kim

Some of the most memorable graphic works by midcentury architect and designer Alexander Girard live on in upholstery textiles, etched glass, and art panels. Starting today, they’re also being offered in a customizable stationery line, both printed and digitized, through Paperless Post.

The popular etailer of invitations, greeting and holiday cards, and notecards has launched a capsule collection of 20 designs that incorporate Girard’s best-known graphics and patterns. Though Paperless Post had previously collaborated with big names in design, from fashion’s Kate Spade and Oscar de la Renta to interior design’s Jonathan Adler and Kelly Wearstler, this collection marks the first time the company is working with the estate of a midcentury-modern legend. This seems a natural extension given Girard’s history of corresponding through letters and personally creating greeting cards for family and friends.

Iconic works such as Heart of Love, La Fonda del Sol, Hand and Dove, and Palio are complemented by recreations of his popular Herman Miller textiles for envelope liners. The Alexander Girard for Paperless Post collection is both an online and printed series.
