Light Brights: Karman’s Latest Designs Are Loaded with Character

Sheila Kim

Italian lighting manufacturer Karman has served up a number of new luminaires with — true to the brand — a twist.

The Domenica Large Pendant, for instance, recalls the traditional church bell but renders the form in white plaster, adorned with an intricate pattern, that gives way to gold or white wire netting. It measures 19-3/4 inches in diameter by 22 inches high.

Nando Grip, which is offered as a pendant or wall sconce, is inspired by the Lambretta motor scooter handlebar. They’re made from perforated metal that creates a decidedly industrial feel but lacquered in gold, white, or gray to add a touch of luxury and sophistication.

Another edgy series, the Mek family of pendants borrows silhouettes from shapes of engine parts: the Crankshaft, Camshaft, and Clutch. Each design is available in black, white, or white/bronze ceramic.

The two-piece Crash Pendant is really a light fixture and tray combo. The bell jar-shaped ceramic design is split into a top portion that functions as the pendant and the bottom tray, each sporting complementing jagged rims. Both have a diameter of 18-3/4 inches.

Hoot doesn’t like owls? The Ti Vedo Wall light is a whimsical white-ceramic owl with bulbs for eyes. Well-suited to residential and hospitality settings in particular, it measures 14-1/4 inches wide by 17 inches high.
