Free Webinar: The Architect’s Ultimate Guide to… Elevators

Elevators are arguably one the most important components of a building when it comes to designing public architectural projects.

When one considers a major building renovation, it’s easy to focus on spaces like corridors, lobbies, offices, guest or patient rooms … in other words, all the public-facing spaces. Right after the lobby, a building’s elevators are the very next public-facing space building occupants and visitors see. In partnership with the experts at Inpro, Architizer hosted an insightful webinar laying out the case for cab renovations as a part of an overall building interior update.

Special guest Tom Roller is a 20-year veteran at Inpro, who started literally at the ground floor in Shipping and Receiving, through inside and outside sales positions, and is now in Regional Sales Management for the Elevator Interiors division. He is currently enrolled in the NAEC Vertical Transportation Management certification program.

Tom argues that elevator cabs are integral to the interior design of a building, and can have a significant impact on the experience of users. Given the distance we travel in elevators each year — a collective 1.4 billion miles in the U.S. and Canada alone! — elevators are arguably one the most important components of a building when it comes to designing public architectural projects.

Tom’s presentation covers everything from elevator cab standards and codes, to ADA guidelines, to considerations around maintenance and security.

This webinar is not all about utility, though — Tom highlights that the design of an elevator cab, including material finishes, has a dramatic effect on first impressions, as one of the initial spaces they experience when entering a building. In his talk, Tom explores creative considerations including lighting, material selection, branding and beyond, illuminating the plethora of options on offer for architects and interior designers.
