New and Noteworthy: Sleek Bath, Lighting, and Storage

Diandra Cohen

With last month’s bicoastal shows and NeoCon around the corner, we’re well into design-show season at this point, and at least a few product trends have become … concrete. If you weren’t able to make it to ICFF last month, we’ve got a rundown of some of the most interesting new products from the show floor at Javits. While Dornbracht is integrating computer technology in the bathroom, Duravit is sculpting elegance and simplicity into their new ME by Starck line. In the lighting world, LEDs are increasingly the norm, offering the advantages of optimal energy consumption and longevity, as seen in both PELLE’s and Lambert et Fils’ lighting studios’ lightweight and innovative designs.

Read on for our roundup of seven cutting-edge bath, lighting, and storage designs this year and get in the know about where product design is headed.

Smart Water by Dornbracht

While the rest of the world is going digital, Dornbracht is bringing your 0s and 1s into the bathroom. Smart Water Technology is revolutionizing adjusting bath and water temperature from mechanical to the digital. “The bathroom is becoming digital,” Andreas Dornbracht explains. “Even today, Smart Tools are the foundation for the bathroom and the kitchen of tomorrow.”

ME by Starck by Duravit

Light and rimless are the keywords to Duravit’s ME by Stark’s new toilet and urinal collection. The brand uses ‘slender,’ ‘pure,’ and ‘deep’ to describe the new basins’ proportions.

The Ametis Ring by Graff

Baby, I can see your halo … is a good song to practice while showering under the Ametis Ring by Graff launched this year. Using a full spectrum of LED RGB chromotherapy lighting, the user can choose between a “rain” or “waterfall” experience. Six different “croma” are possible depending on the kind of liquid therapy needed: yellow shines to inspire hope and optimism, green can induce healing, blue for serenity, and red inspires joy.

And because temperature knobs in the bathroom can be boring, Graff brings the joystick to sink water temperature and pressure control.

Long Bubble Chandelier by PELLE

Mimicking the decoratif form of hung dried chili peppers in the home, the Long Bubble Chandelier by PEELE hangs elegantly in almost any environment. Their delicate blown glass bubble line was designed in 2008, and this year, LED technology is built into the elegant fixtures.

XY Series by Vin de Garde

Calling all wine enthusiasts: Vin de Garde’s sommelier-designed wine cellars are simple and efficient solutions to wine storage. The XY Series eliminates the wine storage envelope (or barrier), and this modular and open framework showcases wine to be a decorative element of any room.

Beaubien by Lambert et Fils

Referencing midcentury modern, traditional Chinese screens, and the industrial age, the Beaubien by Montreal’s Lambert et Fils’ creatively innovative and original designs can be made to order in aluminum, powder-coated steel, and brass.

BlancoWhite Golden Gate by Santa and Cole

Held up by pulleys, the adjustable thin strip of LED lights by Santa and Cole is the company’s sleek new design. Its serene glow is designed for both meeting spaces and private dining rooms.
