A New Technology Makes Bathrooms Sleeker

Architizer Editors

Sometimes, the search for perfection pays off in spades. Just ask German bath manufacturer Duravit, which this spring introduced a new technology and, as a result, a new aesthetic. “C-Bonded” uses precise-fitting technology to merge ceramic elements with furniture, hiding the material thickness of a washbasin from view and creating a singular, uniform vanity that’s both beautiful to behold and easier to clean.

C-Bonded

The first thing one will notice is the crisp, clean edge where the washbasin is bonded to the vanity. “Achieving that perfect look was quite difficult: To get that crisp edge 100-percent right, we had to test out quite a few versions,” explains Tim Schroeder, president of Duravit USA. “DuraCeram® helped us start in the right place, thanks to its strength.”

A patented, proprietary ceramic material, DuraCeram allows for very thin profiles to be merged with vanities for a slender, modern look that doesn’t at all sacrifice durability. Connecting the ceramic furniture washbasin to the surface of the vanity creates a perfect whole and a new profile for an exceptionally sleek washing area.

“Creating technology that both elevated bath design and improved on its function was the ultimate goal,” Schroeder says. “More specifically, the intent behind creating a uniformly designed washbasin and vanity unit was to diminish the appearance of seams, which often take away from a furnishing’s design and can be cumbersome to clean.”

The resulting C-Bonded unit offers a very minimal appearance that doesn’t get in the way of the vanity, and the vanity doesn’t interfere with the look of the ceramic. “They’re able to balance each other in a very harmonious way, where the purity of their designs shine through,” he says.

Thanks to the accurate and precise-fitting connecting technology, the thickness of the washbasin is reduced to a refined rim that’s pleasant to touch, right at the transition between the cool, smooth ceramic and natural structure of the wood. This result at once elevates bath design and improves function.

The C-Bonded solution doesn’t just look and feel good: DuraCeram is also highly wear-resistant. In addition, large shelves on the sides of the units are very practical, and the smooth, seamless surfaces can be cleaned both quickly and easily.

“When consumers put this technology to use, they’re getting more than a streamlined bathroom furnishing — they’re getting an easy-to-clean, durable piece that works with two of Duravit’s timeless furniture programs: Darling New and L-Cube, by sieger design,” he adds. “These are also two of our most popular ranges, so they were a natural fit for adding a new feature such as C-Bonded.”

Both Darling New and L-Cube feature crisp designs that complement the new C-Bonded technology. Combining the ceramic element with the unit that holds it provides a modern update for both collections, showcasing Duravit’s expertise in innovation and craftsmanship.

Schroeder credits a combination of passion, technology and 200 years of experience in the bathroom industry for the success of the new C-Bonded units. “DuraCeram helped us start in the right place, thanks to its strength, and our craftsmen are truly passionate about creating perfect and innovative bathroom products,” he says. “So with this passion and unrivaled industry experience, we were able to achieve the final result of the seamless C-Bonded washbasin and vanity.”
