Zaha Hadid’s Cove Kitchen Is an Added Gem Inside Her High Line High-Rise

Zaha Hadid Design’s first full-size kitchen tool is a miniature sculpture of the firm’s larger work.

Last month, Italian brand Boffi launched its latest customizable kitchen product — a sleek and stylish new island by Zaha Hadid Design. The distinct Cove Kitchen is part of the Boffi_Code concept launched last year and the late architect’s first collaboration on a full-size kitchen tool. A flawless piece of design, the unit has already been incorporated into the firm’s highly anticipated residential high-rise in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.

The freestanding unit is based on two of Zaha Hadid Architects’ most famous built projects: MAXXI National Museum of XXI Century Arts in Rome and the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan. The curvaceous forms of these monumental cultural projects influence the graceful outline of the singular Cove Kitchen. Its minimal yet bold design is characteristic of the late architect in form, functioning as a striking piece of furniture without commanding too much attention.

The Cove Kitchen features a large countertop curved around a spacious hollow opening in the front where stools can be placed. Appliances, along with seamless drawers and cabinets fitted with storage containers, are integrated into the chef’s side of the island, while a deep sink is embedded on top.

In the video below, Boffi unveils the inspiration behind the Cove Kitchen and the easy setup of the prefab product.

The project is a prominent part of ZHA’s first building in New York, 520 West 28th Street, an undulating glass-and-concrete structure set up along the High Line. Much like the façade, the indoor spaces feature a glossy and luxurious feel accompanied by the harmoniously integrated Cove Kitchen in the main living area. The statement piece immediately adds a pronounced architectural quality to the interior.

The Cove Kitchen is customizable with various materials and layouts. Available in two standard sizes, it also includes a mix of finishes and materials such as Corian, marble and wood.
