Power to the People: New Design Encourages Workers to Take It Outside

Sheila Kim

A couple years ago, you may recall, Kalamazoo, Michigan–based Landscape Forms brought power to the people quite literally in the form of outdoor-rated all-weather charging stations created in collaboration with power receptacle brand Legrand. Now, for GO, Landscape Forms has integrated similar tech into a sleek piece of site furniture that’s geared toward public and commercial spaces.

Essentially a gathering spot, GO is a sculptural table with a large surface area for working, eating or just socializing, with integrated data and power ports that work on or off the grid. “Part of industry leadership is taking concepts that are successful elsewhere and reimagining them outside,” explains Richard Heriford, president of Landscape Forms. “For the first time, we are taking the culture created around a communal table, moving it outdoors and bringing power along with it.”

The table measures 9 feet long by 30 inches deep and is available in dining height, standing height or standing height with a canopy that incorporates LED downlights. For clients desiring off-the-grid solar-generated power, the manufacturer installs PV panels into the top of the canopy.

GO is constructed with aluminum extrusions and castings not unlike the pieces that make up an airplane wing. In addition to standing up to the elements, the material helps dissipate heat to ensure that users aren’t scorched by the surfaces in hot climates and conditions. And everything is coated in Landscape Forms’ proprietary Panguard II powder coat in white for durability and a smooth and pristine appearance.

“It is our responsibility to create furniture that supports people and the technology they want to use in the places they want to be,” adds Kirt Martin, vice president of design and marketing at Landscape Forms. “With the GO outdoor table, we created a product that we believe will bring special value and enhanced experience to corporate and college campuses, transit and healthcare settings.”
