Is it just us, or is it getting cold out there? After an unseasonably warm autumn in many parts of the world, it seems that one of Game of Thrones’ favorite catchphrases finally has a ring of truth about it: winter is coming. As temperatures continue to drop across the northern hemisphere, it shouldn’t be long until cities from New York to London are transformed into a winter wonderland.
While this weather can prove troublesome for some buildings — see Frank Gehry’s Stata Center at MIT, where ice and snow piled precariously upon swooping canopies — other projects are designed with wintry conditions firmly in mind.
