Free Live Talk: 4 Mistakes Architects Make in Business (and How to Solve Them!)

Too many architects position themselves as ‘well meaning amateurs’ when it comes to business. Archibiz is out to change all that.

Architizer Editors

After the incredible reception we received for Episode 1, Architizer is thrilled to announce a second edition of our Mistakes Well Made Live Series! In case you’re not familiar, Mistakes Well Made is a series of live-streamed conversations with special guests on the challenges that architects face every day — and how we can learn from them to become better all-round professionals.

These free-to-view episodes aim to highlight best practices pertaining to professional development and career progression through the lens of personal journeys in architecture. These stories will remind us how — if we learn and grow through them — our biggest mistakes can turn into our greatest assets!

For Episode 2, we welcome Ray Brown, co-founder and chief mentor at Archibiz. Ray has a passion for helping business owners – particularly architects – to realize their personal potential and that of their organization.

Ray is a business coach and entrepreneur who has worked in the UK, South Africa and the US. He operated at CEO level for over 25 years before relocating to Australia in 2005. Ray’s passion is helping business owners to realise their personal potential and that of their organization. He provides coaching and mentoring to a number of architectural practices globally and is former Chair of the Board of social data firm, Neighbourlytics. Since June 2019, Ray has been leading Archibiz’s signature DAPS (Designing Architectural Practice Success) Live Course, along with chairing the boards and providing mentoring services for many clients.

During what promises to be a refreshingly honest talk, we’ll learn about the 4 most common mistakes that architects make in business, and how to solve them:

  • Failure to get basic business education and preferring the ‘well meaning amateur’ approach to business
  • Lack of vision for their practice
  • Letting the work alone speak for their practice
  • An inability to explain the value of architecture to their market

If you want to get better at business, or dream of starting your own architecture firm, this talk is one not to be missed!
