The platform Architects, not Architecture (AnA), which invites architects to speak about their biographies and influences instead of their projects, turned five years old during the pandemic last year. Due to the constraints of lockdowns, founders and new A+Award jurors Fermín Tribaldos and Irene Osei-Poku decided to go digital. With a small team and a lot of effort, AnA set up a Virtual World Tour, expanding their reach to a global level and hosting a wide variety of internationally recognized names and local heroes.

This month, AnA launched its second season of the Virtual World Tour, announcing the first five stops: Hong Kong, Brazil, Japan, the United States and Turkey. In each location, two architects have been invited to talk about their lives, including anecdotes and events that have shaped their architectural positions and personalities.

You can register for the series for free on the AnA website and receive a link to watch the talks on demand if you missed the live stream.

A highlight will be the Japan Edition, where Pritzker-Prize laureate and world-renowned architect Toyo Ito will participate as a speaker.

Amongst others, AnA’s last Virtual World Tour invited personalities such as Elizabeth Diller (Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, USA), Simon Alford (RIBA President, United Kingdom), Gabriella Carillo (TALLER Gabriela Carrillo), Steven Holl (Steven Holl Architects, United States), Lyndon Neri (Neri & Hu Design and Research), Sou Fujimoto (Sou Fujimoto Architects) and Maria Warner Wong (WoW Architects, Singapore). The talks have been archived on Architects, not Architecture’s Hall of Fame.

This year, Architects, not Architecture’s Virtual World Tour Season 2 will take viewers on a trip to five destinations. Included in the list of destinations is Hong Kong with the esteemed Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Moira Moser, M Moser Associates and William Lim, CL3 Architects, followed by an episode in Brazil with architects Marcio Kogan, Studio MK27 and Cristiane Muniz, UNAMUNIZVIEDA.

AnA’s Brazil episode will feature architects Marcio Kogan of Studio MK27 and Cristiane Muniz of UNAMUNIZVIEDA.

The highlight episode will be in Japan on November 17th, 2021 with Pritzker Prize Laureate Toyo Ito, Toyo Ito Associates, before AnA gives the stage to the two L.A based architects Clive Wilkinson, Clive Wilkinson Architects and Lorcan O’harliy, Lorcan O’harily Architecs. On December 8th, the final episode of VWT2 will take place in Turkey with Emre Arolat, Emre Arolat Architects and Melike Altinisik, Melike Altinisik Architects.
