The modernist egg, the minimalist rectangle and the classic clawfoot are all beautiful freestanding-tub options to anchor a residential bathroom. But if you’re looking for something a little different that can bring character to the space as equally well as the aforementioned, consider one of these recent products, a few of which have been designed by familiar — and big — names.

Agape: Cuna
Designed by Patricia Urquiola, Cuna seems like a marriage of modern and classical forms: Its main component is a spare white basin, but its frame adds a decorative element with a cage-evoking tubular steel frame. The surround of the thermoformed solid-surface tub can be specified in a range of hues to contrast the frame. Overall dimensions are 165 by 78.5 by 52 centimeters.

American Standard: Sedona
Rectangular with rounded corners, Sedona boasts a geometric design with a minimal, transitional look well-suited to a variety of interiors. The high-gloss cast acrylic unit features a generous interior for bathers seeking a deep soak and sports a toe-tap drain and large slotted overflow. The tub measures 1,594 by 759 by 581 millimeters.

Bisazza: Daffodil
With slim, sexy Art Deco–meets–Scandinavian–style legs, Daffodil looks as if it can actually stand up and walk away. This playful touch is courtesy of Spanish designer Jaime Hayon, who always manages to inject (sometimes subtle) humor into his products. Part of a larger collection of fixtures and furnishings by Hayon, the unit comes in two lengths, the longer of which features integrated containers for holding bath salts, soaps, towels, accessories and more.

Claybrook Interiors: Evolve
A modern interpretation of the Victorian-era roll-top tub, Evolve is a pared down form that comes in all white or white with a surround in Dover White, Mist, Pearl, Dune, Sahara, Bahia, Barley, sable or the dramatic Night Sky. It measures 70 by 31 by 19 inches.

Clou: Hammock
This beautiful tub for two is part of a larger bath series called Hammock, named for its sloping shape that mimics the curves of the hanging variety. The white acrylic unit measures 2,000 millimeters long by 1,400 deep by 500 high. A single-occupancy model, sinks and coordinating taps and tub fillers are also available.

Jacuzzi: Siena
For those desiring a more traditional or period aesthetic, this freestanding unit channels the historic marble sculptures of the Tuscan city of Siena. It sports an integral, traditional pedestal base, integrated linear overflow and faces with raised details recalling picture molding. Made of white acrylic, it’s 69 inches long by 34 wide and 24 high.

Kuvaro: Origami
Also inspired by its namesake, the rectangular Origami references the art of folding paper with asymmetrical facets in its face and feet. Measuring 1,900 by 615 by 900 millimeters, it’s made of the proprietary ASTONE and finished in white. Hastings Tile & Bath is the US distributor.

Native Trails: Avalon
This tub may look like a heavy piece of concrete, but it’s actually crafted of the company’s proprietary NativeStone, which is composed of natural jute fiber and cement, a material that’s 40 percent lighter than traditional concrete. Each unit, available in a 72- or 62-inch length, is hand-formed, -polished, -finished and -sealed by artisans in Vietnam. Finishes include Ash, Slate and Pearl.

Salvatori: Ishiburo
This luxurious tub, created by celebrated Japanese architect Kengo Kuma for marble furnishings brand Salvatori, may be made of stone, but its intriguing varied-depth reed or rib pattern exudes a Zen-like, tranquil energy. It comes in two sizes — 2,035 by 1,000 by 550 millimeters or 822 by 483 by 850 millimeters — and a choice of Bianco Carrara, Silk Georgette, Crema d’Orcia or Pietra d’Avola stones. Said Kuma of his design: “I aspired to maximize the inherent material quality of stone. Being immersed in warm water contained within stone brings instinctive comfort to human beings.”
