Competition Brief

As with all One X Challenges, your task is beautifully simple, while providing ample room for creativity. Each entrant is asked to submit one rendering that powerfully communicates an architectural form or space and the experience of the people that inhabit it. Your visualization can be located anywhere in the world and be at any scale. It can take the form of a perspective, parallel projection, section, abstract or any other image format.

Your rendering can portray a new or imagined structure, or it might be a twist on an existing building or city. As long as it is a computer generated visualization that portrays part or all of a building or group of buildings, it is eligible. This should be accompanied by a short description of your proposal, no more than 150 words. You can see examples by exploring last year’s winning entries here.

Jury

The One Rendering Challenge Jury comprises practitioners and thought leaders from the worlds of architecture and visualization, each with a special connection to the art of rendering. The jury represents those leaders who are actively bringing architectural ideas to the public today, both online and in the built environment. Selected jurors are as follows:

Matthew Bannister, Cofounder of multi-disciplinary design and communications agency DBOX

All 100 finalists will have their renderings scrutinized by the panel, who will score the submissions according to 3 criteria: Aestheticscommunication and impact. More details on what the jury are looking for can be found here.

“Go to the South” by Alberto Pasqualetto, Finalist in the 1st Annual One Rendering Challenge

With advances in technology, architectural visualization is now virtually limitless in its potential to convey ideas about architecture and the world around us. With the unprecedented global events of 2020, our environment has changed in fundamental ways, as has the way we inhabit it. How will architecture evolve as a consequence? Your rendering might answer to this question, or countless others — it’s totally up to you.
