Arrival Terminal Water Wall: To create an apt symbol for Switzerland that would form the welcoming impression for arriving visitors, dai turned to the one element that is both the country’s most important resource as well as being the sculptor of its famous landscapes: water.
Located in the last section of the entry corridor, the water wall realized at Zurich Airport encapsulates this most representative of elements with a characteristically Swiss design. The water flows down a wall constructed with granite from the Gotthard massive, and is accentuated by lateral illumination. Simultaneously sleek and massive, the density and permanence of the granite stands in contrast with the fluid ephemerality of water, an interplay of contrasts that reference the natural elements that has physically shaped the landscapes of Switzerland
Reshaping Zurich Airport’s access points: Expansion and updated circulation plans have transformed the traffic zone between Terminal 1, the shopping area and the entrance of the hotel into a substantial buffer zone.
For this newly created space dai developed a new ceiling system simulating the look of a natural sky through innovative light variations. Providing gently undulating light as well as lowering energy consumption and noise, the Natural Sky system cohesively ties the disparate spaces together while calming the atmosphere through light.
Elsewhere, a lavastone wall shaped into a woven pattern was inserted into the entrance hallway to the hotel, an expression of indigenous material that references Switzerland’s particular geology.
