Rocket Solution Central grew from the need to consolidate and improve existing Student Financial Aid services for the University of Toledo by providing a “One-Stop” service center. The existing space was a typical open plan administrative office assembled from available workstations, poorly lit and congested.Existing perimeter offices were opened to the core through the use of movable glass partitions which function to bring diffuse natural light to the interior reception area. Ceilings were replaced with suspended and curved elements that reinforce circulation and spatial definition. Additional customer service offices using movable solid and glass partitions were clustered within the center administrative area to provide flexibility. Existing lighting was replaced with direct/indirect pendant fixtures providing improved illumination levels with significant reduction in electrical and HVAC energy requirements.Restrictive entry doors were replaced by a 30’ wide sliding glass wall allowing a service line queue without limiting employee access. The Reception area was enhanced and expanded to create separate spaces for self-help and assisted computer access with lounge seating to improve comfort and opportunities for small group interaction. The final design solution balances technology and design to fulfill the goal for a customer friendly “state of the art” student services facility, the project was designed to meet LEED-NC v2.2 guidelines.
