This house won the Gold Medal in Category
Architectural Design Single Family Housing, described as follows:
If a human being finds in contained water his
first shelter, then why not to take it to architecture this symbiosis like the
heart of a house, one he has as a place of rest, contemplation, and a place to
exercise his senses. The contemporary
man is permanently subject to the external pressure of a world that does not
pause, and moves him away from nature.
We architects have the responsibility to shape in our architecture
nature traits: the heat, the light, the water.
We called it “The Spa House” because that
denomination expresses the comfort of a Spa within a family beach house. This design aspires, in its conception, to
stimulate the harmonic fusion of the senses shaped in the daily activities that
occur in it. The kitchen-bar, the water
cascade, the swimming pool, the integrated landscape, the water and deck: the
sense of smell and the taste, the ear, the view and the tact.
The hydro-massage swimming pool, in this
seasonal house, is the core around which all the rooms develop. The pool roof is a translucent retractable
cover. The pool is integrated to the
kitchen through a bar counter, the dining room is furnished with a concrete
dining table which can function as a massage table, generating a great space of
leisure, with a water cascade in the back and the ocean in the front. The level of all these rooms laids higher
over the family room and the outer terrace for a better view of the marine
landscape. Thus, the family spaces in
the basement gain light, and stay communicated visually with the swimming pool
through a pool’s glass side.
A glass-made suspended volume, that is
separated to maintain major privacy and take advantage of the best view, lodges
the master bedroom. A small patio with a
retractable cover accompanies the dormitory as a transit space towards the
bathroom; it develops like a private solarium.
